Full-Rated Versus Up-Rated Pumps and Motors
The simplest explanation of the difference is that a Full-Rated pump or motor of a given horsepower is identical in performance to the next higher horsepower of the Up-Rated version. For example: A 1.0 HP Full-Rated pump or motor uses the same amount of energy and generates the same flow and pressure as the 1.5 HP Up-Rated version in the same application. For all intents and purposes they are identical except for the labels. So why are both available? The answer is marketing. By comparison the higher horsepower sounds bigger, better and stronger.
